Falling tree claims two lives during fishing trip

    JOHOR BARU: What began as a fun fishing trip for four friends ended in tragedy when two of them were killed by an uprooted, falling tree early today.
    Rizal Ismail, 33, and Hanafi Abd Rahman, 42, succumbed to head and body injuries while undergoing treatment at the Jemaluang Clinic.
    The police have classified the case as sudden death.
    Rizal and Hanafi, both from Kampung Pengkalan Batu in Mersing, together with their two friends had gone fishing at Hutan Taman Bahtera in Jemaluang near Mersing when the incident occurred about 4.30am.
    Mersing police chief DSP M. Kumar said the victims died while receiving medical treatment.
    "Information from their two friends revealed that all four had gone fishing in the jungle about 4.30pm today.
    "When they arrived, they set up camp and slept in the jungle during the night.
    "However, while they were asleep, a tree uprooted and fell in the early hours of the day, crashing through the camp in which the two were asleep," he said. – Bernama
