PETALING JAYA: Perlis mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has urged local leaders to be aware of their spouses' behaviour and habits as the cause of a man's downfall could begin with his wife.
He said the spouse of a leader has a great impact and role in influencing the husband.
“In various countries, women with the title 'First Lady' can destroy careers and the political future of a country’s leader,” he said.
“Therefore, (it is) no wonder (that) Elena Ceausescu, the wife of Romania’s former communist leader Nicolae Ceausescu, was executed along with her husband, due to her role in tyranny and wasting the country’s wealth,” he added.
Mohd Asri also said if a husband does not serve as a mentor and guardian to their wife, she may cause detrimental consequences.
“When a woman is righteous, they are sometimes better than their man. A poor man’s life can be changed with the refinement of a woman,” he said in a posting on his Facebook page on April 17 titled “Wanita dan Pengaruhnya Terhadap Lelaki” (Women and their influence on men).
