PUTRAJAYA: Writers in the country were yesterday reminded not to hide the truth in their writing and mislead the public.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the hardest task for a writer is to convey the message of truth through his work.
“It is true that the truth is not always sweet, and often bitter to be said.
“However, a true writer will always convey the truth and will never spread lies through their work. That is where the strength of a writer lies,” he said.
“I hope writers will always continue to state the ‘painful truth’ to drive the public towards the path of factuality, and not the ‘beautiful lie’ that could sway them,” he added.
He said this at the presentation of the ITBM-PENA-BH II Literature Awards at his official residence here.
Muhyiddin also said the national language is continuously challenged by the influence of foreign languages, which also brought in their different culture and way of thinking.
He urged the public to always uphold the national language.
