Taxi fee monitoring committee in the works

JOHOR BARU: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will call for a Taxi Fee monitoring committee meeting to discuss plans to upgrade taxi services nationwide, said its Chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar.
Syed Hamid said the meeting to be chaired by SPAD will comprise of taxi drivers associations, association of taxi services related industries, consumer organisations and other non-governmental organisations.
He said a date for the meeting has yet to be fixed while speaking to the media after attending an event to introduce the MeterOn app to the public here today.
Syed Hamid said the MeterOn mobile app is not meant to punish errant taxi drivers, but part of a driver transformation programme aimed at providing better service and satisfaction to passengers.
According to him, once a complaint is received on the app, SPAD will call the complainant within 24 hours provided the complainant has given his or her full name, phone number and personal details.
He said 200 complaints have been registered to date and six cases have been solved.
The mobile app that was launched on April 9 has recorded 16,000 downloads.
The app is equipped with six key features – Driver Verification, Journey Tracker, Fare Estimation, Driver Rating and Meter Usage, SOS Alert and Quick Complaint. It is currently available for budget taxis, TEKSI 1Malaysia, premier and executive taxis, as well as hired cars.
