Many food premises ordered closed following cleanliness inspections

    LUMUT: The Perak Health Department has declared 35 food premises including a school canteen in the state, closed after they were found not meeting a satisfactory level of cleanliness.
    State Health deputy director, Datin Dr. Ranjit Kaur said, the action was taken after several operations were conducted throughout the state from January to the end of March this year.

    "We inspected 2,578 food premises in the state and issued 170 compound notices.
    "The offending premises owners were given a maximum of 15 days to clean up their premises," she told a media conference after the state level 2015 World Health Day Celebration here, which was officiated by Pasir Panjang state assemblyman, Datuk Rashidi Ibrahim.
    Ranjit said the action was taken under the Food Act 1983 and the Food Regulations Act 1985, to control the safety and standard of food.
    "Those found guilty, face a maximum fine of not more than RM100,000, or jail of not more than 10 years or both, upon conviction," she said.
    In 2014 she said, 88 food premises were ordered closed during health inspections conducted on 13,682 premises in Perak. – Bernama
