Indonesian man detained with live bullets at Penang airport
GEORGE TOWN: An Indonesian prison officer was detained for carrying three live bullets in his checked luggage at the Penang International Airport yesterday.
Barat Daya District police chief Supt Lai Fah Hin said the scanner machine at the entrance of the international departure area detected suspicious objects in the man's sling bag at 10.30am.
"The .32 R.P Auto bullets were discovered in the 41-year-old man's bag. He was supposed to leave for Medan at noon," he told reporters here today.
Lai said the man was attached to the North Sumatera Law and Human Rights Office but he did not have an authorisation letter to carry live bullets.
He said the Indonesian consulate here had been informed about the incident and the man was being detained to facilitate investigations under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1. – Bernama
