BUKIT MERTAJAM: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin today denied claims that a movement within Umno Youth was attempting to topple Umno President Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
He said such claims were baseless in nature and aimed at causing infighting among Umno leaders.
"It is an attempt to disrupt the unity among Umno leaders, especially between me and the Umno President. This I feel is an attempt to cause friction between the party President and Umno Youth.
"Such a movement does not exist. It was already clarified by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan (Tengku) Mansor," he told reporters after witnessing the nomination process for the Permatang Pauh by-election at Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara, here today.
A portal was said to have claimed that five Umno Youth leaders had held a meeting with Johor Umno Youth in Rompin, Pahang to topple Najib.
Khairy said it was not his style of leadership to ask someone else to say something on his behalf.

"There is no such movement. If I agree I will say it and if I disagree I will also say it myself and not through a representative or third person. I support the President.
"I make my decisions for myself and not through my deputy, vice president or exco," he said adding that it was normal for any party to discuss National issues behind closed doors but that doesn't mean Umno Youth does not support the President.
"There is nothing wrong in discussing National issues but the problem is that some who were in the meeting may have their own perception and understanding."
Asked if Umno Youth would take action against the portal, Khairy said it would be a waste of time.
"What is important is clarification. That has been done and the President understands Umno Youth's clarification. I support the President and the President trusts me," he said. – Bernama
