SEBERANG JAYA: The federal government has allocated RM400 million for the construction of a multi-storey block in the Seberang Jaya Hospital.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the upgrading works, which is expected to begin this year, would provide comfort to patients not only in Penang, but in the northern region.
"This hospital has been in operation for over 20 years and needs the additional block to provide better quality service," he said.
The 9-storey building is expected to be completed by 2018.
Muhyiddin pointed out that the decision of the federal government to build the multi-storey block is in-line with the government's aspiration to improve the health service in the state.
"The Health Ministry is focused on providing the best services and facilities to the people," he said in his speech at the launch of the multi-storey block upgrade at the hospital today.
Muhyiddin said that the multi-storey block project is one of the 13 projects approved under the 10th Malaysian Plan (RMK10) which will be carried out between 2011 and 2015.
Also present at the event were Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahya, Penang Federal Action Council Chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman, Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof and Barisan Nasional candidate for the Permatang Pauh by-election Suhaimi Sabudin.
