PETALING JAYA: The owner of a well-known eatery in Jalan Pantai Cahaya Bulan in Kota Baru, Kelantan, is being investigated for selling fish head soup between RM130 to RM150 per bowl.
State Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism director Datuk Abd Ghani Harun said it had opened two investigation papers under Section 57 and Section 21 (5) of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 for failing to reply to a notice from the ministry on April 22.
“The two investigation papers were opened to probe the allegation of expensive fish head soup and if found guilty, the owner could be fined RM100,000 to RM200,000,” he said.
“Investigation results will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for further action to decide whether the owner can be charged or not,” he was quoted as saying in Berita Harian today.
Abd Ghani said he led the inspection team involving 12 officers and personnel after receiving two reports from the public on the high price set by the restaurant.
He said from the inspection, the team found that senangin and siakap (barramundi) fish were sold between RM130 to RM150.
He added the owner used the excuse of not having enough time and did not know how to respond to the notice sent by the ministry.
“Our focus is on the price of fish, as other types of food were sold at a standard price,” he said.
