Abdul Rahman to start sixth term as Yang Di-Pertua Negeri

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Yang di-Pertua Tun Dr Abdul Rahman Abbas took his oath of office for a sixth term at his official residence, Seri Mutiara, here today.
Penang High Court Judge Datuk Mohd Zaki Md Yasin witnessed the oath-taking ceremony with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and the state executive councilors.
Abdul Rahman, 77, will begin his two-year term on May 1, after being appointed to the post since May 1, 2001.
He was the Bertam assemblyman from 1978 to 1990 and had served as executive councilor. He was also Penang Legislative Assembly speaker from Dec 3, 1990, until April 5, 1995.
He is married to Toh Puan Majimor Shariff and has a son and three daughters.
