ROMPIN: Police received 31 reports since the campaign for the Rompin parliamentary by-election began on April 22.
However, Rompin by-election media centre head Supt Abdul Aziz Mahmud said only five investigation papers were opened, namely on three criminal cases and two narcotics cases.
"One of the criminal cases involved criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, while the two others were on causing mischief under Section 427 of Penal Code.
"The two narcotics cases would be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, he said Rompin by-election enforcement personnel had also removed and seized four political banners put up in the constituency without any logo of contesting parties.
He said the first banner was seized at Felda Selendang, Kuala Rompin, while the three others were confiscated in Sungai Meranti junction, Tanjung Gemok.
The said the action was taken according to subsection 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954.
The Rompin by-election sees a straight fight between BN candidate, Datuk Hasan Arifin and Nazri Ahmad.
It is held following the death of incumbent Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis in a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Selangor, on April 4.
Early voting will be carried out on April 30 involving 545 postal voters, while polling day is set on May 5 for 53,294 normal voters.
