Ringgit ends higher against US dollar

    KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit ended higher for the third consecutive day against the US dollar today, as US economic data continued to dismay investor confidence.

    At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.5580/5610 against the greenback compared with 3.5655/5685 on Tuesday.

    The dealer said the dollar fell to a near two-month low against a basket of major currencies.

    "Investors are also cautiously awaiting the outcome of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy meeting this evening, which may discuss a possible interest rate hike," she added.

    Most emerging Asian currencies were firmer against the greenback.

    The ringgit, however, was quoted mostly lower against a basket of major currencies.

    It eased against the Singapore dollar to 2.6926/6967 from Tuesday's 2.6794/6832 and fell against the British pound to 5.4758/4818 from 5.4072/4154.

    The local unit edged up against the yen to 2.9849/9884 from 2.9861/9903 on Tuesday, but slipped against the euro to 3.9156/8203 from 3.8760/8814. – Bernama
