GEORGE TOWN: Those passing along Lebuh Carnavon here will find it a “green” experience after a pilot project for each shophouse to have one tree was launched today.

Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng said the idea behind the “1Shophouse 1Tree” project was to beautify the place.

He said the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) had contributed 80 Euodia Ridleyi (Lacy Lady or Spider Fern Bush) saplings for the project.

Teh also said residents and businesses along the street welcomed the move and he hopes the project would be adopted by others.

“We received many positive responses when a survey was carried out,” he said when launching the project.

Also present was George Town World Heritage Inc (GTWHI) general manager Lim Chooi Ping, MBPP councillor Dr Tan Kim Hooi and MBPP Recreation, Tourism, and International Affairs Department director Rashidah Jalaludin.
