Police cripple drug syndicate, seize 2.2kg of methamphetamine and 4,401 ecstasy pills

JOHOR BARU: Johor police have crippled a drug syndicate, seizing 2.2kg of methamphetamine (syabu) Heroin and 4,401 ecstasy pills, with a market value estimated at RM500,000.
Johor deputy police chief Datuk Ismail Yatim said in a press conference today, that Johor Baru district police raided a house at Majidee Park at 3.30pm, April 29. Police discovered the drugs in the house and arrested two Chinese Malaysians aged 44 years and 54 years respectively.
He said the suspects were drug sellers and were also drug addicts. The volume of the drugs was enough for 150,000 times of consumption.
Both suspects have been remanded untill May 6 for further investigations under section 39(B) of the Dangerous drugs Act 1952.
In another development, Ismail said a scratch-and-win syndicate has now changed its modus operandi.
The syndicate's old modus operandi was to attract the public by offering lucrative prizes through a scratch-and-win contest. Now they operate in a kiosk at a hypermarket and use discount vouchers to lure customers.
Before the victim scratches the voucher, the victim has to to give personal information, such as a bank account number.
Police received a complaint that the suspect from the syndicate had asked the victim to give ATM card details, and transferred money from the account without the knowledge of the victim. The victim came to know about what had transpired one week later after he checked his bank account, and discovered that RM2,100 had already been transferred to some other person's account on the day he visited the kiosk.
Ismail said two salespersons from the kiosk have been detained to facilitate investigations.
He said police are still investigating the case, and urged the public to be aware of the new modus operandi.
