PERMATANG PAUH: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who is also the Penang Chief Minister, questioned whether the Permatang Pauh by-election candidate, Suhaimi Sabudin, who is a construction company general director is able to secure contracts from the state government.
"I have asked the question before, but until now, he has not answered this," he told reporters at the Wat Chantararam temple at Tanah Liat today.
Lim said based on the statistics from the state government, there was an increase in the the value of contracts given to Class F (Grade G1) contractors between 2009 and 2014.
"These contracts were given to bumiputra contractors via open tender, and in 2009, contracts worth RM11.6 million were awarded to these contractors, with the amount increasing over the years.
"And in 2014, the amount stood at RM91.4 million. The amount for six years stands at RM370 million," he said.
Lim was hitting back at Umno who alleged that Bumiputra contractors who are Class F contractors were not awarded contracts from the state government under the Pakatan Rakyat administration.
He alleged that this was a slander made by Umno among Malay voters.
"If Suhaimi admits that he can make a living in Penang, that means Penang has been taking care of all Bumiputera contractors in the state. If he said he could not, the figures from the statistic would prove otherwise," he said.
