Stamps, covers launched to commemorate new Perak ruler

IPOH: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, launched an exhibition of the Sultan of Perak and commemorative stamps and first day covers in conjunction with his installation at the Ipoh City Council hall here today.
The stamps and covers which portray the pictures of Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim are sold at 60 cents, 80 cents and RM1.20, while covers are available at 50 cents each .
A book titled "Hikayat Misa Melayu", a manuscript written by Raja Chulan Raja Abdul Hamid during the reign of Sultan Iskandar Dzulkarnain (1754-1764) was also launched.
The exhibition, which displays the history, pictures, videos and newspaper cuttings on the sultan, instruments and historical buildings will end on June 4.
The exhibition is organised by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) in collaboration with the Communications and Multimedia Ministry and the Information Department while Pos Malaysia printed the stamps and covers.
The sultan in his speech said the manuscript written in the 18th century spells out the tradition and customs of the rulers and the state government.
He also commended and thanked the ministry and Pos Malaysia for organising the exhibition and printing the stamps and covers.
Also present during the launch were Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, Raja Di-Hilir Perak Raja Iskandar Zulkarnain Sultan Idris, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
Sultan Nazrin will be installed as the 35th Perak ruler two days later at Balairong Seri, Istana Iskandariah, Kuala Kangsar.
