Institute, police to jointly investigate crash, says deputy minister

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research will liaise with the Royal Malaysian Police to help investigate the mishap at the Duta–Ulu Klang Expressway (Duke) on Saturday.
Transport Deputy Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said a comprehensive investigation would be carried out, including analysing the closed-circuit television cameras to identify the cause of the crash which claimed the lives of a couple and their seven-month-old daughter.
He said a detailed investigation would be conducted and punishment such as suspension of licence could be taken if there was negligence," he said, assuring the investigations into the crash would be fair.
He was speaking to reporters after visiting the deceased's family in Taman Batu Muda, Batu Caves here today.
In the incident at 1.05am, Fairuz Nizam Husain, 35, wife, Nova Safitri Azhari, 25, and daughter Nur Firuza Annisa were killed in a three-vehicle collision at the 6.2km stretch of the Duke Expressway from Ulu Klang to Jalan Duta.
To help the victims' family, Abdul Aziz said a savings account would be set up, with cooperation from the Yayasan Pewaris Bahagian Batu.
Meanwhile, he urged the Road Transport Department (RTD) to conduct tighter enforcement to monitor illegal racings.
On the appropriateness of vehicle clubs to register with RTD, he said the ministry would study the matter, including holding a workshop to find a suitable method for the clubs to operate.
In the hour-long visit, Abdul Aziz also handed a personal contribution to the family. – Bernama
