ALOR STAR: Two thieves on a motorcycle who tried to give police the slip by weaving through village roads found the arm of the law was just too long when they were caught after a 30-minute chase.
Kedah crime prevention and community security department acting chief ACP Shamsuddin Mat said the two were spotted behaving suspiciously about 7pm on Sunday.

He added a three-man team tailed the suspects from Jalan Gangsa to the Kampung Berjaya wholesale market when the duo discovered they were being followed by police.

He said the duo then sped off on the motorcycle leading the police motorcycle team through the lanes of Kampung Telok Yan and the back alleys of Taman Thien Peng.

The suspects' motorcycle crashed by the side of the road after about 30 minutes and they were detained following a brief struggle, he said in a statement today.

Police seized several sunglasses of various makes, a 30cm sickle, a 30cm hammer, a zinc cutter and a Yamaha LC 135 motorcycle.

"Initial investigations revealed that the sunglasses were reported stolen from a van earlier," he said, adding probes were ongoing to determine if the duo were involved in other cases.

The case is being investigated under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after both tested positive for drug abuse.
