MUAR: After his successful expeditions in Peninsular Malaysia and Southeast Asia last year, sexagenarian Wan Hashim Mahmood wants to "conquer" the countries in the United Kingdom next year.
The senior citizen who will turn 70 next year said he was now mentally and physically ready to start the solo challenge, which is expected to begin next April.
"I've been through nearly 10,000km before this, cycling around the peninsula and Southeast Asia, and there is no problem for me to repeat (the feat of) cycling solo, involving a distance of more than 8,000km in the UK.
"I have chosen to start cycling in April and expect to finish within three months because at the time the weather will not be cold in those countries and I'm currently studying the terrain there," he told reporters here today.
Wan Hashim, who hails from Kota Baru, Kelantan, said he will start his journey in London, before entering Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and finishing in London again.
"I'm going to travel through more than 150 major cities in the four countries, including historical and tourist locations there," he said.
He said the cost of the expedition was estimated to be in excess of RM90,000 and hoped that he would be sponsored. — Bernama
