SINGAPORE: Singapore Customs has impounded 700 counterfeit women's bags and wallets that were imported from China.

During an inspection of the consignment of goods at the Tanjong Pagar Distripark, Singapore Customs officers found the 700 women's bags and wallets, suspected to be counterfeits of three popular brands, the authority said in a statement.

It said the counterfeit goods were impounded by Singapore Customs on Wednesday under Section 93A(1)(a) of the Trade Marks Act.

The brand owners were informed of the impounding, and they could institute infringement actions against the importer under the Trade Marks Act.

The authority said Singapore did not condone such illegal trading activities and would take firm action against importers of counterfeit goods, and continue to ensure a robust intellectual property rights enforcement regime in the republic. – Bernama
