Kedah Immigration Dept arrests 14 foreigners, three local men

    ALOR STAR: The Kedah Immigration Department detained 14 foreign nationals aged between 15 and 37 years in three separate raids conducted in Sungai Petani, yesterday morning.

    Its director, Mohamad Yusri Hashim in a statement said the foreigners were detained in an operation conducted at food outlets and car wash centres.

    He said the 14 men comprising 11 Myanmar nationals, two Bangladeshis and an Indonesian were arrested for overstaying and not having valid travel documents.

    Three local men aged between 31 to 48 years, who admitted they were their employers, were also arrested and being investigated under Section 56 (1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for harbouring the foreigners, he said.

    "The 11 Myanmar nationals and two Bangladeshis are being detained for not possessing any travel documents while the Indonesian is being investigated under Section 15 (1) (c) for overstaying as his pass has expired," he said. – Bernama
