LAHAD DATU: Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) commander Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun is satisfied with the level of cooperation given by resort operators in helping to further enhance security control in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone), especially in waters off Semporna.
He said there were some resorts that had already installed security radar on their own initiative while the majority of workers were locals.
Describing it as a good development in the prevention of cross border crimes, particularly abductions, he said based on surveillance by ESSCom security personnel several days ago some resorts had installed the radar facility, including in Pulau Mataking.
"Resort operators also complied to the directive not to hire foreign workers and ESSCom really appreciates this cooperation and hopes it will continue," he said at the Lahad Datu Youth with ESSCom get-together here on Wednesday night.
ESSCom security personnel also conducted surveillance and inspections at several caged fish breeding centres in the surrounding waters off Tawau, Kunak, Semporna and Lahad Datu in efforts to strengthen further security control in the area, he said.
"The operation is aimed at detecting illegal foreign workers besides reminding fish-breeding operators to be always on the alert to face any eventuality," he said. – Bernama
