CF requests Tabung Haji to be transparent over all their investment deals

PETALING JAYA: The Centre to Combat Corruption & Cronyism (C4) is calling for Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) to come clean on all the investment deals it has engaged in over the past years.
One of C4's board of director Cynthia Gabriel said that the contributors have the right to know how their monies are being invested and what are the returns obtained from those investments.
"The latest LTH purchase of one of the two plots of land on the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) for RM188.5 mil reeks with dubious land transactions, crony politics and more cover ups," she said in a joint statement issued with other C4 board of directors Tan Sri Simon Sipaun, Richard Yeoh and Dr Ahmad Farouk Musa.
The NGO then demanded for immediate clarification from both bodies after discoveries conflict of interest between the LTH board and the 1MDB leadership.
"If there are individuals who have been found to have been acted wrongfully discharging their duties then their contracts should be terminated with immediate effects," the statement said.
Furthermore, the joint statement also said that the priority of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in directing investigations at the leaked documents is misplaced and shows a lack of will in getting to the bottom of the matter.
"Instead of doing that, he should have initiated an investigation on the suspicious land transactions, allegations of patronage politics and conflict of interest as well as the prospects of LTH jeopardising its contributors rights to pursue their pilgrimage.
"As the guardian of security and public order for the country, he must never allow the public to feel shortchanged or give a sense that those behind the 1MDB scandal are being protected from the long arm of laws," the statement added.
It frustrates the group even further that they have to always demand for answers on why none of the previous allegations have been investigated even though there were concrete evidence that shows public funds have been siphoned off with fraudulent documents and half-truths being spewed before the public.
The group strongly believes that the growing number of leaks involving Government Linked Companies (GLCs) is an indication of deep rotted dissatisfaction over the poor level of governance and the lack of integrity among government leaders.
"The cannot be brushed away anymore especially if political leaders are serious in curbing graft at all level," the statement said.
