Smoking ban in eateries should be enforced - Kuching city mayor

11 May 2015 / 23:47 H.

KUCHING: The mayor of Kuching City South Datuk James Chan has suggested that the health authorities look into the possibility of banning smoking in all eateries.
He said the Kuching City South Council (MBKS) had put up "No Smoking" billboards at all the markets, namely Petanak, Kenyalang and Stutong markets to discourage people from smoking.
"It is just the council's approach to discourage people from smoking at the eateries but the reminder was ignored and the public still continues to smoke at these places.
“Therefore, it is hoped the Health Ministry will look into the matter to ensure the laws are enforced not only in MBKS area but throughout the state,” he added.
He said that by doing so it would be good for the people's health (both smokers and non-smokers). – Bernama
