Police arrest man who tries to break open ATM machine

    IPOH: Police arrested a 43-year-old chicken stall employee after he attempted to break open an ATM machine at a bank in Bercham here on Tuesday.
    The man's attempted robbery triggered the alarm of the security firm which alerted police at about 4am.
    Ipoh City police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said a police team rushed to the scene and found a man sitting on a motorcycle outside the bank premises.
    "On checking police found a hammer and chisel believed to have been used to prise open the machine," he told reporters here today.
    The first layer of the machine had been prised open. Investigations revealed the man had acted alone in trying to steal the money. The motorcycle belonged to the suspect, who is from Ulu Kinta and has no previous criminal records.
    "CCTV recordings showed the man had tried to prise open the machine for about three minutes.''
    The man has been remanded until today to facilitate investigation. The case is being investigated for theft in dwelling.
