PONTIAN: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has received 2,760,930 income tax return forms via e-Filing, as of May 14, an increase of 9.85% as compared with 2,513,421 forms last year.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said of that total, acceptance of BE tax forms recorded 2,114,698, an increase of 4.11% as compared with 2,205,318 forms in the corresponding period last year.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the opening of the Revenue Service Centre (PKH) at the Pontian Trade Centre.
Ahmad, who is also Pontian member of parliament, reminded that a penalty would be imposed on taxpayers who failed to submit the BE form by today.
The extended deadline to submit it through e-Filing will lapse on May 15.
Meanwhile, IRB chief executive officer Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukor Mahfar said the increase was contributed by people's greater awareness despite having to face the uncertain global economic conditions.
"We expect to exceed the target of more than four million taxpayers to use the e-Filing system based on the current momentum. This year's tax collection target of less than RM140 billion is also achievable," he said.
Mohd Shukor said usually, the tax collection would increase between June and August when companies begin to submit their income tax return forms.
He said, 3.8 million taxpayers used the e-Filing last year with 90% of them having submitted the BE forms via the system.
Ahmad said the launch of another PKH branch in the state would facilitate the IRB operations at the district level and at the same time assisting the public in the district to resolve matters relating to taxation.
Last year, a total of 16,767 people sought the taxation services at PKH Pontian with the tax collection totalling RM10.23 million.
Meanwhile, Ahmad said the second payout of the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) would start on May 28. – Bernama
