IPOH: A video footage of a police officer berating illegal moneylenders or Ah Long threatening to kill them if they continued with their activities made its rounds today earning the cop both praise and criticism from those who viewed it.
Not mincing his words, Menglembu police officer-in-charge of station (OCS) ASP Chen Ah Kooy meant business when he warned Ah Longs to stay away the township under his charge.
Wearing sunglasses and pointing at a Ah Long's advertisement banner held up by an unknown man, he angrily lashed out at illegal moneylenders in Chinese-accented Bahasa Malaysia.
"If 10 of you enter my area, I will kill all ten of you. If you are not happy, call your lawyers to see me. Do not disturb my area, Menglembu. I do not want MCA or DAP to complain my area is full of Ah Long stickers and banners.
All Ah Long, come, come and see me, we can "chjiak chow" (fight one to one in Cantonese). I know you have guns which you buy from Thailand as you have lots of money.
Do you understand, Ah Long barua, ...." he angrily lashed out in the footage including using four-letter words before ending the video shot by a third person.
The unknown man holding up the banner is believed to be a runner of an Ah Long who was apprehended when putting up the banner in an area in Menglembu.
A statement from the Ipoh district police headquarters said Chen's ranting in the footage was unofficial and without reference from the higher-ups of Ipoh police.
Ipoh police said although Chen's initiative to send out the stern warning was meant well with sincere intentions, it should have been done professionally without the use of unsuitable words and language.
Ipoh police also denied that Ah Long activities were high in Menglembu as claimed by Chen as only three of 45 cases reported last year was in the area.
Joey Raj who viewed the video said the footage was hilarious but praised Chen for his courage in taking on Ah Long.
"Maybe we need more stern police officers like the Menglembu OCS. With people like him, Ah Long will behave themselves." he said.
Another viewer, Desmond Wong said it was inappropriate of Chen to use profanities as a police officer even though he was refering to a bunch of crooks.
