Youths called upon to develop entrepreneurship spirit

    KUALA LUMPUR: The young generation are urged to develop interest and strengthen the entrepreneurship culture to help push Malaysia forward in reaching a developed nation status by 2020.
    Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said more young people need to come forward and participate in entrepreneurship as it is part of national development.
    "Your role is very important...I want to see more coming forward.
    "What is important here is to develop that interest and focus in terms of building the entrepreneurship spirit," he said as he stopped by the 1Malaysia Entrepreneurs (1MET) booth during a visit to the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) open day at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, here today.
    The 1MET program which is part of the NBOS initiative is a series of intense hands on entrepreneurship boot camps designed to sensitize nascent and first time entrepreneurs in the basics of entrepreneurship.
    Muhyiddin, accompanied by Director-General of the Public Service Department Tan Sri Zabidi Zainal and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Finance Tan Sri Dr Irwan Serigar Abdullah, spent about an hour touring the booths and observing various activities, held by participating ministries and agencies.
    The two-day inaugural event organised by the Prime Minister's Office was officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday.
    The event provides an opportunity for the public to obtain details of the NBOS and learn about various initiatives implemented since 2009.
    A total of 40 booths and activities for adults and children were held by the exhibitors involved including entrepreneurship talks, elucidation on Goods and Services Tax (GST), Fit Malaysia challenge and free medical check-ups. – Bernama
