KAJANG: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi firmly said that action will be taken against an Umno division deputy chief for allegedly uploading a video clip of Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's speech during a closed-door function recently.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also home minister, said the individual had claimed to distribute the video clip to his division's committee members and to a nationwide Umno division deputy chiefs' chat group via a chatting application, Telegram.
"I have called him and he apologised to me. I replied to him that no apology for you. Damage is done. He has to shoulder the consequences," he told reporters after officiating at the Home Ministry's Family Day at the Malaysian Prisons College mini-stadium here, today.
Ahmad Zahid said the person will be brought to the Umno management committee for further action.
Yesterday, an Umno supreme council member, Datuk Razali Ibrahim, said the action of the person, who spread the seven-minute speech of Muhyiddin's video clip, was unacceptable and could create confusion as well as unrest among the public.
Razali, who is deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department, explained Muhyiddin's speech was to defend the president and party, denying allegation that the speech would lead to disunity in Umno. – Bernama
