PETALING JAYA: More than 1,000 Rohingya and Bangladeshi refugees being held in the Belantik immigration detention depot in Sik, Kedah, are reportedly in good health and pose no health concerns for now.
Mercy Malaysia executive director Ahmad Faizal Mohamad, when contacted by theSun, said the health inspection at the depot takes place on a daily basis. No health related issues have been reported thus far and the situation is under control.
"Besides providing essential food items, full focus is on two main areas, health and medical aid," he said.
"We started conducting aid operations inside the camp, with full cooperation from the authorities, and will continue to do so to ensure their daily needs are taken care of," Ahmad Faizal added.
He also pointed out that Mercy Malaysia will always welcome the initiatives by the governments of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangladesh to discuss this issue actively and to advocate more positive action to be taken to solve this crisis.
