Ringgit ends lower against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit eased against the US dollar at close on Monday, on softer demand for the local unit.
At 5pm, the local unit contracted against the greenback to 3.6130/5160 from 3.5835/5865 on Friday.
A dealer said investors turned their interest to the greenback following an increase in the US consumer price index that lent support to the US Federal Reserve's case for a rate hike later this year.
Most regional currencies fell on the back of rising US inflation and expectations of an interest rate hike in the second half of the year.
The ringgit was traded mixed against other major currencies.
It was slighly higher against the Singapore dollar at 2.6923/6965 from 2.6936/6972 on Friday, but diminished against the yen to 2.9707/9734 from 2.9665/9697 previously.
The local currency traded lower against the British pound at 5.5940/6990 from 5.6103/6172 on Friday, and was up against the euro at 3.9642/0686 from 4.0017/0061. – Bernama
