Employee psych evaluation is employer's duty

KUALA LUMPUR: Psychiatric assessment of workers to ensure they do not have any mental problems while on duty is the responsibility of their employers.
Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Ismail Abd Muttalib said employers needed to identify the job risks and the extent that these could pose dangers to the workers or those under their charge.
"If the employer finds a certain type of occupation or people who undertake a certain type of job is risky, a thorough health screening is needed including on mental health based on the existing laws and policies.
"The employers must conduct the health examination to ensure the job does not bring about any risks to themselves and others under their charge," he said in reply to a question from Datuk Mohd Zaim Abu Hasan (BN-Parit) at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Mohd Zaim wanted to know if the government would introduce new policies for employers to implement psychiatric assessments on all their workers to ensure they did not have any mental problems while on the job.
Ismail said in the public sector, the government had developed a self welfare screening tool as an inventory profiling for psychological well-being. – Bernama
