M'sia to share initiatives in combating terrorism at UNSC briefing

    PUTRAJAYA: Come Friday, Malaysia will share its recent initiatives on domestic legislation in combating terrorism at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Ministerial Open Briefing on Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs) in New York.
    Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will also address the country's effective regulation and monitoring of the FTF movement, in line with the UNSC Resolution 2178, in conjunction with his eight-day working visit to the United States, beginning today.
    A ministry statement said this is the first meeting held at the Interior Minister/Homeland Minister level to conduct a midterm review of the implementaion of the resolution which was adopted last September on countering FTFs.
    While in New York, the statement said Zahid was scheduled to meet with US Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson to discuss ongoing efforts taken by the Malaysian Government in meeting the statutory requirements for participation in the US Visa Waiver Programme (VWP).
    The VWP would allow Malaysians to travel to the US, without visa for 90 days for tourism and business purposes, it added.
    The statement said Zahid would also meet US Ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power, and Interpol secretary-general Jurgen Stock, and attend briefings by the US Coastal Guard, New York Police Department and Counter Terrorism Division NYPD. – Bernama
