Teenager pleads guilty to 19 traffic offences

    BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 17-year-old teenager pleaded guilty to 19 traffic offences at the Magistrate's court here today.
    The teenager, who had just completed his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), committed offences including riding a motorcycle without a valid driving licence, insurance and road tax.
    He was charged under the Road Transport Act 1987 and released on a RM1,500 bail.
    Magistrate Dianne Ningrad Azahar fixed June 15 for sentencing pending the probation report by the Welfare Department as the accused was still a juvenile.
    DPP Kamaliza Md Zain appeared for the prosecution while the teenager was unrepresented.
    Meanwhile, a private company employee pleaded guilty to committing 13 traffic offences in the Butterworth Magistrate's court on Tuesday.
    Mahathir Khamis, 30, from Pangsapuri Pauh Damai Bukit Mertajam, was charged with violation of traffic light, making U-turn at a prohibited location, having an invalid driving licence and riding a motorcycle without side mirrors.
    Mahathir is the first person charged in Northern Seberang Prai area since the Ops Warta was launched on May 18.
    Magistrate Muhammad Firdaus Abdul Wahad fined him RM2,150.
    DPP Asmah Azhari appeared for prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
