Petronas top official robbed of RM300,000 in house break-in

    KUALA LUMPUR: A gang of robbers escaped with more than RM300,000 in cash and valuables after holding up a top official of national petroleum company Petronas and his family at their bungalow near Taman Tun Abdul Razak, Ampang today.
    The Petronas top official, who is a Datuk, was asleep when he and his family were woken up from their sleep by the robbers who broke in at about 5am.
    It is learnt that at least five robbers, whom police believe are Indonesians, were armed with parangs had earlier held up two security guards who were on duty at the house before breaking down a rear door to gain entry into the place.
    They hauled up the guards, the Datuk, his family members and a maid before tying them up and ransacking the house.
    The gang fled after getting cash, gold jewellery, luxury watches and other items.
    Minutes after they left, the victims, who were unharmed, managed to untie themselves and alerted the police.
    Selangor police chief S/DCP Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said police have set up a special task force to track down the suspects.
    “From the dialect they spoke, we believe they are Indonesians and this group could be behind other similar cases involving prominent figures. We have launched a hunt for them.” he told theSun.
