SHAH ALAM: Police crippled a house-breaking gang following the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of six cars, worth over RM400,000, on Tuesday.
Selangor Criminal Investigations Department chief SAC Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah told a press conference that the suspects, aged between 30 and 36, were nabbed at a house in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong.
"During the raid, the suspects attempted to flee through the back door of their premises but failed to do so. The gang is believed to have committed house break-ins and stealing vehicles since February," he told a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters today.
He said with the arrest, police recovered the six cars believed to have been stolen by this gang and solved more than 10 cases in Selangor.
"All the six cars have police reports linked to house break-ins and stolen vehicles in Brickfields, Petaling, Subang Jaya and Bukit Sentosa. The cars are a Volkswagen Golf GTI, Volvo MK6, two Honda City, Perodua Kancil and Honda Jazz," he added.
Mohd Adnan said the gang was believed to be selling the cars to individuals locally.
He also said they would check if personnel from any agencies were involved in this gang as "it puzzled us as to how they managed to change the road tax according to the faked number plate."
Prior to the arrests, Mohd Adnan said that on April 30 a man lodged a police report that his house at USJ 9, Subang Jaya, was broken into and he lost personal belongings and a Volkswagen Golf GTI in the 6.45am incident.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that one of suspects had past criminal records for house-breaking, stealing vehicles and involvement in drugs.
He said from Jan 1 to May 25, this year, Selangor recorded 62 cases of house break-ins and car thefts.
