KUALA LUMPUR: The public should not rush into judgement over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Mah Siew Keong.
He said the Auditor-General (AG) and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) are conducting an audit and investigation respectively.
“Furthermore, the PAC also comprises of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) representatives. They have the necessary tools to seek the answers they claim to be seeking, and they should exercise restraint when commenting on the issue as it will jeopardise the investigation they are a part of as well,” he said during a press conference today.
Mah, who is also Gerakan president, said it is imperative that the related audit and investigation be conducted in a timely manner so it will not impinge on the market confidence of 1MDB.
“The longer this issue drags on, the speculation and innuendo will abound. This will not only affect 1MDB, but also the companies who seek to do business with 1MDB,” he echoed.
“I look forward to the presentation of 1MDB’s recovery plan which will be proposed to the Cabinet soon, and the plan must inspire the necessary confidence in the market and investors to ensure that it can be implemented effectively,” he added.
