IPOH: A traffic police prosecuting officer here pleaded not guilty to three counts of corruption, allegedly committed three years ago, at the Sessions Court today.
Judge Rihaida Rafie set bail at RM5,000 for each of the three charges on Inspector Amrin Paiman, 53, from Taman Desa Pengkalan. Amrin is attached to the city police headquarters public order branch.
The case would be re-mentioned on June 30.
On the first charge, Amrin is alleged to have asked for RM12,000 from Khor Kwong Yik as an inducement not to charge him for reckless and dangerous driving, a offence under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 334), at Restoran Bistro Mohammad, Tambun, in early April, 2012 at 7pm.
On the second charge, he is alleged to have agreed to receive RM1,500 as an inducement not to charge Khor for reckless and dangerous driving under the same act at Restoran Bistro Mohammad, Tambun, on April 9, 2012 at 7pm.
On the third charge, Amrin is alleged to have received RM1,500 which was deposited from a third party bank account into his CIMB account at the bank's branch in Menglembu as an inducement not to charge Khor for reckless and dangerous driving under the same act on April 10, 2012.
The offence carries a jail sentence of not more then 20 years and fine not less than five times the sum or value of the gratification or RM10,000 whichever is higher on conviction.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecuting officer Amer Abu Bakar Abdullah asked the court to set bail at RM5,000.
However, the accused's lawyer, Muhaimin Aris, asked for a lower bail as his client had to take care of a wife and four children, and a sickly mother.
