KUALA LUMPUR: The recent Pakatan Rakyat split should not be a surprise to due to the inherent differences among its partners.
Speaking to the media at the Petronas Education Sponsorship presentation ceremony, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the opposition coalition was always considered as temporary.
“Considering that they do not share a common ideology, this only proves the contrasting differences.” he said.
Metaphorically calling the split as "tidur sebantal" (strange bedfellows), Khairy said: “In the end, the dissimilar dreams led to this rupture.”
He also denied the possibility of a union between PAS and Umno.

“There are no plans to forge a political union with PAS at the moment,” said Khairy, who is also Umno Youth leader.
“What has happened to Pakatan is a product of their inability to work together, and has nothing to do with Umno or BN.”
Separately, Khairy cautiously expressed his hope that the spat between Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim would be resolved quickly and amicably.
“I feel it is improper for a member of royalty and a cabinet minister to publicly quarrel,” he said, adding that he considered the contents of Nazri’s statements to be fair.
“The TMJ ought to clearly explain what he said, and not just give a general statement in regards to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak."
However, Khairy agreed that Nazri’s approach to the crisis may need reconsidering.
“I agree with the content, but a less confrontational manner would be more suitable.”
