Hefty fine for GOF police constable on four counts of corruption

BUTTERWORTH: A 31-year-old police constable with the General Operations Force (GOF) was fined a total of RM40,000 by the Sessions Court today, in default of a year jail term, on four counts of corruption.
Judge Julie Lack Abdullah fined Mohd Izwan Mohd Amin RM10,000 in default of three months in prison for each charge and also ordered him to serve four days in prison from today.
She delivered the sentence after Mohd Izwan pleaded guilty to all the charges.
He was charged with soliciting RM1,500 from one Mohd Rizal Ishak as an inducement not to take action against him for syabu possession.
The Kulim-based policeman committed the offence on Dec 5, 2014, about 9pm at 3157, Jalan Tun Hussein Onn, Seberang Jaya.
On the second charge, Mohd Izwan received RM150 from the same person at the same date, time and place.
On the third charge, he received RM350 from Mohd Rizal on Dec 6, 2014, at the same place too.
He also pleaded guilty to a fourth charge of receiving RM650 from Mohd Rizal about 2pm at the junction of Jalan Jenahak, Taman Tun Hussein Onn in Seberang Jaya on Dec 11, 2014.
Earlier at the same court, two GOF police constables claimed trial for abetting in the same case.
Mohd Fazlezan Abu, 34 and Mohd Sukhari Hassan, 30, claimed trial on two charges each for abetting Mohd Izwan.
They also claimed trial for abetting Mohd Izwan in soliciting RM150 from the same person at the same date, time and place.
Julie set bail at RM8,000 each and fixed July 27 for mention.
