KUALA LUMPUR: A woman was harassed with text messages, calls and emails by a jilted ex-colleague for ignoring his text messages via Whatsapp.
The victim, a 33-year-old sales executive, who wished to be identified as Wong, claimed that she met Lee, a 55-year-old man from Singapore, in 2011 during a business deal at an international company she previously worked at.
"I began ignoring his messages in early Oct 2014 as I think it is improper to communicate frequently via text messages. However, on Oct 30, I receive messages, calls and emails from various numbers and email accounts accusing me for being a homewrecker," she said at the MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau head Datuk Seri Michael Chong's office at Wisma MCA.
"He was very persistent and even impersonated as his wife to get my attention," she added.
In February, Lee harassed her again with nine emails sent to her current workplace which contained conversations between Wong and the man and he also attempted to hack her email account from an unrecognised device in Singapore.
Wong then lodged a police report at the Puchong police station on Feb 26.
Feeling dissatisfied, Lee sent another two emails to the Human Resource (HR) department at Wong's workplace on 5 June and 6 June claiming that Wong was having an affair with a married man.
"The HR department replied that they would take take legal action against him if he ever harassed me again".
Lee then claimed that he was being defamed as he was a victim in the incident.
Wong urged victims who are being harassed to save the conversations between them and the perpetrators as evidence to prove innocence.
Chong advised victims especially women to fight back against the perpetrators and expose them publicly.
"Cases like this ensues due to jealousy. Victims should lodge a police report and seek help from family members, NGOs or directly contact me," he said.
