KUALA LUMPUR: Former president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu (pix) applauded the Registrar of Societies (RoS) for allowing the MIC 2009-2013 interim Central Working Committee to extend a grace period for re-elections.
Speaking to the press yesterday after attending an UMNO breaking of fast event at the Putra World Trade Centre here, he said that whatever has happened has been for the good of the party.
"The decision by the various parties has been good a one, like the Registrar's decision. I think with new people, MIC will become a strong party again.
"MIC will never go down the street. It always shines because it is one of the strongest partners of Umno," he added.
He also denied allegations that he had a hand in stirring up the party's internal crisis by having an individual of his personal preference heading MIC.
"No. I don't even talk to Subramaniam. I don't even talk to all those important office bearers. (As for) Palanivel, I haven't spoken to him for two years.
"Whatever is happening in MIC today has nothing to do with Samy Vellu. If I'm involved, it would be in a very different dynamic (in terms of) being active (in the party). We will also be doing the best we can for the people."
When asked if he had any intentions returning or heading MIC, he said: "No, why should go I back to MIC when I'm still in it.
"Also, no, once I have resigned (from my post), no more. I'm a gentleman. I keep my word to the people."
He also slammed Datuk Seri G. Palanivel as being ungrateful but did not elaborate any further.
"The one person who has been most ungrateful for what I gave, is him. That's the only comment I can make."
