PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has apologised to Wilson Ng, the man who was denied entry into the Kuala Lumpur International Airport's (KLIA) Baggage Services Lost and Found section because he was wearing knee-length pink shorts and sandals, saying it was a misunderstanding.
"We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Mr Ng for any inconvenience caused during the incident. We have investigated the matter and found that it was a miscommunication on the implementation of a policy pertaining to the issuance of visitor passes at our airports," MAHB said in a statement issued today.
Ng, a blogger, had posted on his blog www.placesandfoods.com detailing the incident where he was denied entry to KLIA's Baggage Services Lost and Found area because his attire was deemed indecent by a security officer.
He was there to collect his baggage which he had accidentally left at the baggage carousel following a trip to Taipei but was forced to wear an ill fitting pair of black pants which could not be zipped up and a pair of shoes to get into the office.
His post had gone viral following a string of similar issues raised on the social media where people were denied entry to various public places including the Sungai Buloh hospital, the Jalan Gombak Road Transport Department and Selangor State Secretariat for "indecent dressing".
MAHB has said that while there is a dress code in place, it only applies to the public who are requesting for visitor passes to enter the terminal for official visits or work purposes.
"However, the dress code does not apply to passengers passing through our airports. In this case, we regret that the confusion on the dress code requirement arose as a result of Mr Ng applying for a visitor pass to re-enter the terminal to go to the Malaysia Airlines' Lost & Found office which is located at the airside area of the terminal," MAHB added.
