DAP backs Pua amidst pressure to withdraw from PAC (Updated)

GEORGE TOWN: DAP is all out to back its party member Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua and will not entertain calls made for the elected representative to withdraw from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said that it was the Member of Parliament's (MP) duty and responsibility to speak on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue as it was of national interest.
He pointed out the 1MDB scandal was a huge issue in the country and Pua did no wrong when he spoke out.
He said even PAC chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan had been reportedly saying it was nothing wrong for Pua to explain and address the issue.
"Why are others who are not involved in the PAC being busy bodies. Do not be busy bodies. Jangan bising (Do not make noise), " he said at a press conference after launching the Adventist Oncology Centre in Adventist Hospital here today.
His statement comes after Pua was urged to withdraw from the PAC following his prejudicial views on the investigations into 1MDB.
Certain quarters have criticised Pua, who is also DAP national publicity secretary, for his critical views made towards the 1MDB.
Lim said he does not understand why certain parties were trying to get rid of Pua as the latter was acting in his own capacity as an MP.
He added the party would not accept any changes made for the DAP representative in PAC.
"Pua will remain as DAP's PAC member, " he said, claiming that the scandal had affected the country's economy.
