PETALING JAYA: Penang is no longer a Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government and will from now on be known as the Penang state government, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
In a statement issued today, the chief minister said that the decision was made following a state executive councillors meeting on Wednesday where all 30 state exco members from DAP, PKR and PAS agreed to the proposal put forward by the state leadership.

Lim added that in the meeting the state excos unanimously agreed to three resolutions - to oppose PAS' motion to sever ties with DAP; to accept that PR no longer exist following PAS' motion during its muktamar last month; and to continue governing Penang state administration in accordance to the now-defunct pact's 2009 Common Policy Framework.
The DAP secretary-general pointed out that the Penang government will continue to function normally, with a focus on improving public services in accordance with the principles of Competency, Accountability and Transparency (CAT).
“At the same time, we will also carry out the transformation in moving towards becoming a state with international standards - smart, clean, green, healthy and safe,” he said.
He added that the state exco has also decided to forbid the usage of any colorful chemicals (Colour Run) to be used in the state.
Lim's comments came in the wake of the explosion during the Colour Play Asia celebrations held at the Formosa Water Park in New Taipei City, Taiwan on Saturday which left more than 500 injured and two dead.
“This chemical substance is usually used during marathons. The state government shall not be held responsible if there are any unfortunate incidents resulting from the use of this chemical, especially if it is being used without the knowledge of the Penang City Council or the Seerang Perai Municipal Council,” he added.
