Animal lover organises food project for stray cats during Ramadan

GEORGE TOWN: Using Ramadan as a platform to get the society to do good by giving alms, an animal lover organised a programme called "#ProjekKucingGelandangan" (#HomelessCatProject) to get the society to contribute to feed stray cats.

Zeti Norin Omar, 32, said she started the project on the first day of Ramadan, it being the month of mercy and generosity.

"During the non-fasting months, many people feed these stray cats, especially at food courts, but in Ramadan, there is no food during the day for these cats.

"So, we encourage the people to sponsor a bag of food for RM50, which I will distribute to 'feeders' who will then feed the cats," she told Bernama here.

Zeti Norin said she had so far raised funds for 15 packets of cat food under the programme.
Her "feeders" under the programme are at Bayan Baru, Relau, Balik Pulau, Batu Maung, Air Itam and Jelutong.

Their job is to feed the stray cats at least twice daily, she added.

Zeti Norin said those keen to become a feeder or contribute to the project could obtain further information at the Facebook account of Zetty Petzilla Cat KuchentaCattery.

Meanwhile, a feeder, Surena Md Daud, 43, said she was used to being called names, like "mak kucing", "gila kucing" and "meow meow", because of her love for cats.

Surena, who has a 14-year-old son, said she started becoming a cat feeder 10 years ago.

She said she prepared two to three kilogrammes of raw fish daily to be fed to stray cats at the Sri Aman Complex, Relau near here.

"I set aside about RM500 a month to buy fish and "whiskas" (cat food) for stray cats," she added. – Bernama
