DU residents object to proposed LRT3 realignment

PETALING JAYA: Some 200 residents of Damansara Utama (DU) voiced their concerns today that the alignment of the upcoming LRT3 project from Bandar Utama to Klang would disrupt their daily lives.
During a dialogue session between residents and representatives from public transportation corporation Prasarana Berhad, Damansara Utama Residents and Owners Association president Rajes Patel said they were not consulted beforehand about the realignment.
“Indeed, the ones to be most affected would be on Jalan SS21/42A, 21/38, 21/36, and 21/13 since the construction is only a few metres away from their homes,” said Rajes.
The residents also expressed their anxiety over the anticipated traffic congestion, sufficient parking space, security and noise and air pollution. Most worrying was the fact that some homes could be subject to possible compulsory acquisition.
“This is for houses along Jalan SS 21/42A which may be deemed to be close to the proposed One Utama Station,” said Rajes.
He urged Prasarana to conduct another review of the realignment with more analytical detail and thoroughness, this time with the input of DU residents.
“We are not opposed to the LRT3 project in itself, but many residents here will find their lives more difficult if there are no changes to the plans.”
Project director Norlia Noah stated the current plans were still in the proposal stage.
“Nothing has been decided yet. The period between May and August is Prasarana’s public inspection period where public feedback will enable us to adjust the plans accordingly,” she said.
