PETALING JAYA: National Feedlot Corp Sdn Bhd (NFCorp) chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail has filed a defamation suit against his former business consultant Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail over the malicious statements made against him in a Facebook posting.
In his statement last Friday, Salleh claimed that Shamsubahrin, who has been convicted for cheating and money laundering, has engaged in a systematic campaign of malicious falsehood, slander and libel to injure his reputation and business.
Salleh, who filed his suit at the High ‎Court registry last Friday, said the business consultant started his campaign on May 19, 2015, with postings on his Facebook page which was accessible to the public.
Salleh, who is the husband of Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said Shamsubahrin has made defamatory remarks saying he had been made a scapegoat at the expense of an eight-year jail term.
On May 18, 2015, Shamsubahrin was found guilty on five counts of cheating and money laundering and was sentenced by a Sessions Court to eight-years imprisonment and four strokes of the whip.
Shamsubahrin was also given a penalty to pay RM611,895 within three months, or he would face an addition four years jail.
Meanwhile, Salleh said he also applied for an injunction with a certificate of urgency against Shamsubahrin from further uttering frivolous and malicious statements against him.
Salleh added that NFCorp has also initiated a legal action to reclaim the RM1.75 million from Shamsubahrin for failing to deliver his purported business consultancy services.
Salleh has appointed two lawyers from Al Firdaus Syed Ismat & Co law firm, namely Al Firdaus Shahrul Naing and Syed Ismat Syed Muhamad.
