12-year-old girl still missing, rumours on social media of her return false

KUALA LUMPUR: It was a mundane morning for 45 year old K. Sakunthala on June 19.
Fulfilling her daily routine, she and her 12-year-old daughter, Jenifer Anthonysamy made the short walk from their home in Kampung Pandan to the SJK (T) Kampung Pandan school at the break of dawn. Little did Sakunthala know, that would be the last time she laid eyes on her daughter.
Jenifer was said to have left school at 12:30pm that day by her friends and teachers as she had been complaining of a headache, Sakunthala knew that something was amiss when Jenifer did not return home at the usual time of 4pm, which is when her extra class in school usually ends.
"We did not know that she had left school early that day, no one had informed us. We were expecting her to come home at 4pm," said her sister who only wanted to be known as Sundari.
Since Jenifer left school on that fateful day, she had not been seen since.
The only possible lead her family and authorities have to go by is an eyewitness account of a bus driver, also a relative, who said he saw what looked to be the girl on the back of a motorcycle.
"He didn't think anything of it at the time as he thought that it was my brother who was fetching her from school and he is not 100% sure if it is her he saw," said Sundari.
Sundari explained that Jenifer had walked back from school that day with a friend, they both then parted ways while heading for home.
"On her way home, it started to pour and she took shelter at a shade near a Hindu temple, that was the last place she was spotted by her friends," she said.
The family have lodged a police report and the authorities are currently investigating the case.
MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said that he hopes the abductors return the girl as she is still only 12 years old.
"She is still very young, I hope they return her. I also urge anyone with any clue of this case to contact me immediately," he said at a press conference today.
Chong said that this is the 16th missing persons case his department is facing.
"Half of them are young girls and the rest young boys," he said adding that children are mostly targeted.
Sundari also dispelled rumours going around on social media that Jenifer had been found and her abductor had been caught.
"This is not true, this was just created by someone on Facebook, I have been receiving many calls because of this," she said.
Anyone with information to the whereabouts of Jenifer is asked to contact Chong's office at 03-220 3888 or Sundari at 016-310 6250.
