KANGAR: The country needs civil servants with a high sense of integrity to resolve various current security issues, said Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

As such, he said, civil servants should increase their integrity level even in petty matters.

"The integrity of civil servants is still being questioned by clients and society because of their inefficiency in performing their duties as well as failure to observe work rules," Azlan said.

He added that other factors were inefficiency in completing their tasks within the set time, (lack of) commitment, attire, and the way they attended to clients, as well as enjoying breaks during office hours.

"Some people may consider this issue petty but it affects the image of the entire department and compromises the delivery system of the civil service," he said.

He was speaking at the state government's monthly gathering held at the Perlis National Cultural and Arts Department Auditorium, here today.
His speech was read out by the chairman of the State Religious Committee, Khairi Hassan.

Azlan also reminded civil servants to be prudent in their administrative spending during the current economic uncertainty and declining value of the Ringgit. – Bernama
